Inspiring the Next Generation: A Musical Day with the BBC Symphony Orchestra

Waltham Forest pupils play alongside professional musicians from the world class BBC Symphony Orchestra

Young musicians rehearse Side by Side with musicians from BBC Syymphony Orchestra

On Saturday 18 April, young musicians from across Waltham Forest had the unforgettable opportunity to play alongside professional musicians from the world class BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout a full day of inspiring orchestral workshops, talented players aged 11–18 worked side by side with BBC Symphony Orchestra musicians, developing their technique, ensemble skills and confidence — and experiencing first hand what it’s like to perform at a professional level.

The orchestra played music from the BBC Ten Pieces collection, composed by Bizet, Martinez and Purcell.

The energy, focus and musicality on display were outstanding, and it was wonderful to see so many young people challenged, motivated and inspired.

A huge thank you to the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Willowfield for hosting us, our brilliant tutors, schools, families and of course the young musicians who made the day such a success.

We’re incredibly proud to support the next generation of musicians in Waltham Forest.
