Magic Flute Opera Project

Waltham Forest Pupils Perform their Unique Production of the Magic Flute in Partnership with the Royal Opera House

This year Waltham Forest Music Service has been working in partnership with the Royal Opera House to bring to life one of Mozart’s most loved operas: The Magic Flute.

This one-of-a-kind event featured more than 700 primary school children from across Waltham Forest who performed some of the most beautiful excerpts from the Magic Flute opera, held at Big Penny Social in Walthamstow on Thursday 4th July 2024.

The Waltham Forest Magic Flute was made unique by incorporating young musician’s ideas to make it their own which included a giant snake, mixing rap into opera and some fabulous hair and make-up!

The production featured members of the Little Choir of Joy, Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra, a young Waltham Forest soprano from the ROH Youth Opera Company and ROH baritone Ben Knight as Papageno.

This project has been created and directed by Italian soprano and choir leader Maya Sapone and produced by Waltham Forest Music Service, i n partnership with The Royal Opera House's Create and Sing Programme.
